On Monday, June 29, 2006, I attended a concert by the St. Lawrence String Quartet. This group is a long-term favorite of mine, and they have been the resident string quartet at Stanford University for the past 20 years.
The group performed the String Quartet Op. 77 number 2 of Haydn, and the Ravel Quartet.
Haydn was an innovator in the Quartet literature. Fortunately there are still groups such as the St. Lawrence who play these masterpieces on a fairly regular basis. In addition, I have heard this group perform newer works by many composers, including Argentinian-American composer Osvaldo Golijov.
The last concert of this series with the St. Lawrence Quartet takes place Friday, July 3rd, 2009 at 12:15 PM at the Dinkelspiel Auditorium on the Stanford campus. Admission is Free!
