Haydn’s String Quartet Op. 64 number 6

For many years composer Joseph Haydn was away from Vienna. His personal relationship with his wife was an issue, and the opportunity to be away at the Esterhazy Estate allowed him the time to compose his own music.

The Quartet #6, Opus 64 is my favorite from this collection. My sense is that my enjoyment stems from the joyous aspects of this music, and the maturity of how wonderfully Haydn develops so many of the themes.

Characteristic Vienese music crops up in this quartet, and that, too, makes me smile…
