Kissin Plays Mozart and Schumann
Evgeny Kissin is one of the most outstanding pianists who is performing anywhere today! I have come to realize that every time I hear him play.
In this recording, I was completely struck by the sensitivity, musical feeling, phrasing, and total singing results of his playing of one of my favorite piano concerti, the Mozart # 24. This CD also contains a wonderful reading of the Schumann Piano concerto. Both performances were recorded at the Barbican Center in London in September 2006.
Colin Davis conducts the London Symphony Orchestra, and he brings his strong and sensitive support to Evgeny Kissin’s outstanding playing. Overall, Kissin’s playing is always musical, tasteful, and technically flawless. His playing also shows us the charming humor and lightness of Mozart’s music. In the Schumann, as well, I noted great depth of feeling and Mr. Kissin’s delicate, astounding touch. There’s really no requirement for major technical powers here. And Mr. Kissin shows us, instead, his ability to penetrate the composer’s poetry, sadness, and broad singing melodies. Overall, we have here a performance of sensitivity, tasteful interpretation, and highly satisfying collaboration between the performing artists.
