When experienced musicians come together to perform works of contemporary American composers it is an event! Such was the case last month, at Zankel Hall in New York City:
The first half of this concert program offered vocal works by Milton Babbitt and Elliot Carter well-known modern composers whose works Mr. Levine has previously performed. On the second part of the program was a performance of Richard Strauss’ “Bürger als Edelmann” Suite.
Soprano Judy Bettina has previously collaborated with James Levine, with excellent reviews; this time was no exception:
“…the soprano Judith Bettina, a seasoned, persuasive interpreter of Mr. Babbitt’s music, was dazzling in her lucidity and commitment.”
