Julia Fischer plays Bach!
When you combine Johann Sebastian Bach, and Violin compositions, and Julia Fischer, now there’s winning formula!
On this CD, we have the award-winning German violin virtuoso Julia Fischer demonstrating her great sensitivity with the music of Johann Sebastian Bach, in her performance of his violin concertos, as well as several with other instruments. She is accompanied by the Academy of St Martin in the Fields chamber group, with whom she has previously recorded, but this time Fischer herself leads the group.
This CD presents several different aspects for the listener’s enjoyment: Julia Fischer’s individual interpretation, her interactions with the oboe and second violin, and the orchestral accompaniment. Ms Fischer’s beautiful tone, and her sensitive phrasing produce a highly satisfying set of performances. In the Double Violin Concerto, the second violin part is played by Fischer’s friend Sasha Sitkovetsky. And the slow movement, Largo Ma non Tanto, is especially wonderful.
In the D minor concerto for violin, oboe, strings, the oboist is the superb Andrey Rubtsov and with Ms Fischer the concerto becomes one of pure joy in the two Allegro movements and total beauty in the Adagio movement.
There is a wonderful balance between the overall performance style and strong expressivity of the music. Fischer sets a standard in varying the color of repeated phrases with a coherent vision of the entire composition.
Here is an encore from one of Fischer’s concerts: the Sarabande for Solo Violin.
