We lost David Soyer…
David Soyer, founder and Cellist of the Guarneri String Quartet, passed away on February 25th, 2010. He was 87 years old. Soyer was born in Philadelphia and studied with Diran Alexanian, Emanuel Feuermann, and Pablo Casals. He received Doctor of Fine Arts degrees from the University of South Florida and the State University of New York. Mr. Soyer was founding member of the Guarneri Quartet with whom he played for 36 years, until 2002.
David Soyer brought the deep voice of his Cello to millions of people throughout the world. Here is just one way to remember him; it is the sad second movement from Schubert’s piano trio Op. 100, where the Cello has the opening melody.
