Joyce DiDonato’s Handel!
This CD brings us some wonderful music of Handel composed between 1713 and 1745.
For those of you who believe that Baroque music is boring and passionless, explore this CD and you’ll realize just how full of human emotion this music is. There are arias from about 8 different operas, and the spirit of the music is beautifully diverse.
Joyce DiDonato has a marvelous voice with a natural vibrato, and she provides a lot of excitement in singing this glorious music. The voice is warm, expressive, and highly lyrical. She is capable of darkening it one bar and quickly lightening the sound in the next, all of which fits Handel’s music beautifully.
Here is an exciting video of Joyce DiDonato, singing “Crude furie degli orridi abissi”, from Serse by Georg Friedrich Handel (from a live presentation on French television)
Highly recommended.
