Lark Ascending!
Ralph Vaughan Williams composed “The Lark Ascending”, and in my opinion it is all too rarely performed. This wonderful piece is a fine opportunity for any violinist to deliver music with a soaring sound, and with beautiful tone color, especially in the high register. Hilary Hahn shines on this CD with her impeccable intonation and terrific musical style.
Hilary Hahn’s playing is light and lovely, and the music soars just as the title of the piece suggests. This is sweet romantic music to listen to and to daydream by.
And the second selection on this CD is the Elgar violin concerto. If you’re looking for a wonderful recording that offers superior artistic interpretation and excellent surround sound, then this is definitely the one to get.
As is the case with Williams’ Lark, this concerto, too, is rarely played. In many ways, this is a very fine composition! it is technically and emotionally rich, and Hilary Hahn, as expected, does some wonderful things with it.

As a comparison, here’s Janine Jansen and the BBC Concert Orchestra in “The Lark Ascending”; you be the judge about which interpretation you prefer:
