Augustin Hadelich
Augustin Hadelich is yet another fine, young violinist and winner of the 2009 Avery Fisher Grant. He was also the gold medalist of the 2006 International Violin Competition of Indianapolis.
In 2010, the New Yorker Magazine wrote:
“Hadelich, who is twenty-five, has all the fast-fingered brilliance that modern conservatory culture requires; the musicality and the freewheeling fantasy that he brings to bear, though, cannot be taught…Here is a young artist with no evident limitations”.
This CD is an interesting collection of violin music by Poulenc, Prokofiev, Debussy and Stravinsky. As such, it brings together some works that are out of the usual realm of violin pieces by Mozart, Beethoven, Mendelssohn, etc.
Tracks on this CD are:
1. Poulenc: Sonata For Violin And Piano, Op. 119: Allegro Con Fuoco
2. Poulenc: Sonata For Violin And Piano, Op. 119: Intermezzo: Très Lent Et Calme
3. Poulenc: Sonata For Violin And Piano, Op. 119: Presto Tragico
4. Stravinsky: Suite After Themes, Fragments And Pieces By Giambattista Pergolesi: Introductione: Allegro Moderato
5. Stravinsky: Suite After Themes, Fragments And Pieces By Giambattista Pergolesi: Serenata: Larghetto
6. Stravinsky: Suite After Themes, Fragments And Pieces By Giambattista Pergolesi: Tarantella: Vivace
7. Stravinsky: Suite After Themes, Fragments And Pieces By Giambattista Pergolesi: Gavotta Con Due Variazioni
8. Stravinsky: Suite After Themes, Fragments And Pieces By Giambattista Pergolesi: Minuetto E Finale: Moderato – Molto Vivace
9. Debussy: Sonata For Violin And Piano In G Minor, L140: Allegro Vivo
10. Debussy: Sonata For Violin And Piano In G Minor, L140: Intermède: Fantasque Et Lèger
11. Debussy: Sonata For Violin And Piano In G Minor, L140: Finale: Très Animè
12. Prokofiev: Sonata No. 2 For Violin And Piano In D Major, Op. 94b: Moderato
13. Prokofiev: Sonata No. 2 For Violin And Piano In D Major, Op. 94b: Presto
14. Prokofiev: Sonata No. 2 For Violin And Piano In D Major, Op. 94b: Andante
15. Prokofiev: Sonata No. 2 For Violin And Piano In D Major, Op. 94b: Allegro Con Brio
Mr. Hadelich produces some wonderful music in this CD: Sensitive phrasing, great variety of tone, vibrato, texture, and color, as well as a beautiful singing lyrical sound. What I liked so much was the fact that he pulled together a great combination of music for this CD that demonstrates his amazing ability across this varied repertoire.
