Rising star: Vilde Frang
Well… here we go again with yet another astoundingly talented violinist! Vilde Frang is one of the leading young soloists to emerge from Scandinavia in recent years, and as you’ll be able to hear from the video, below, she has an amazing ability with musical expression, great ability as a musician, and outstanding virtuosity on her instrument.
This young Norwegian violinist brings together a diverse set of sonatas for this CD.
Bartók:
- Sonata for Solo Violin, BB 124, Sz. 117
Grieg:
- Violin Sonata No. 1 in F major, Op. 8
Strauss, R:
- Violin Sonata in E flat major, Op. 18
Performed by Vilde Frang, violin, and Michail Lifits, piano
The youthful Grieg Violin Sonata No.1 in F Major, Op. 8 and the Richard Strauss Violin Sonata in E-flat Major, Op. 18 are paired with Bartók’s technically challenging, musically complex Sonata for Solo Violin, BB 124, Sz. 117. Ms. Frang is joined by pianist Michail Lifits for this recording
Vilde Frang’s earlier recording, the Sibelius and Prokofiev Violin Concertos received wide-spread recognition for her performance virtuosity and sensitivity. I actually recognize some technical aspects of Anne-Sophie Mutter in Ms. Frang’s playing; and it turns out that Ms. Frang plays a Jean-Baptiste Vuillaume violin lent by the Anne-Sophie Mutter foundation for young artists.
I am eagerly expecting to hear a lot more from this terrific artist!
