Julia Fischer’s Poeme

Julia Fischer: Poème

Julia Fischer’s performance of the Mozart violin concerti was covered earlier in this blog. Now we have her new CD comprised of four substantial pieces:

Chausson:

  • Poème for Violin & Orchestra, Op. 25

Respighi:

  • Poema autumnnale

Suk:

  • Fantasy for Violin & Orchestra, Op. 24

Vaughan Williams:

  • The Lark Ascending

The performers:

  • Julia Fischer (violin)
  • Orchestre Philharmonique de Monte Carlo, conducted by the late Yakov Kreizberg

This interesting collection is headed by Suk’s virtuosic Fantasy, a mini-concerto that is now justifiably finding its way into the concert repertoire. It is accompanied by two well-known tone poems – the elegant Poème by Chausson and the English pastoral The Lark Ascending by Vaughan Williams. The album is completed by Respighi’s Poema autunnale (of which there is only one other recording in the catalogue), making the program truly multinational.

For this recording, Julia Fischer was joined by her long-term colleague on the podium by the late Yakov Kreizberg, directing his own orchestra, the Monte-Carlo Philharmonic Orchestra.

This recording will be issued on May 3, 2011
