The Salzburg Festival has long-standing reputation as an amazing musical event, and this concert honors one of its founding fathers, composer Richard Strauss.
Renée Fleming, Christian Thielemann and the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra give us a program of song, opera, and tone poem, genres central to Richard Strauss’ extraordinarily creative career. Ms. Fleming interprets four of his songs with orchestra, including the deeply moving “Befreit”, and provides a substantial taste of perhaps her finest operatic role in Richard Strauss’ opera, Arabella.
Christian Thielemann and the Vienna Philharmonic then take us on the spectacular mountain journey created by the composer in his titanic Alpine Symphony.
