Ohnishi’s Goldberg
On this CD, Takae Ohnishi’s performance of Bach’s Goldberg Variations is performed on an excellent new instrument from the Harpsichord Atelier Marc Ducornet (Paris, 2010)
Ms. Ohnishi has been the principal harpsichordist at Atlantic Symphony Orchestra, as well as a soloist with the Berlin Philharmonic Scharoun Ensemble, Gardner Chamber Orchestra, and continuo player with Pro Arte Chamber Orchestra, and Bach Collegium San Diego.
Ms. Ohnishi is a prizewinner at the International Early Music Harpsichord Competition in Japan. Her debut CD “A Harpsichord Recital” was selected as an International Special Recommended CD by the leading Japanese music magazine, Record Gei-jyu-tsu.
Ms. Ohnishi graduated from Toho Gakuen School of Music, and holds a Masters degree from the New England Conservatory, and a DMA from Stony Brook University. Since 2007, she has been Lecturer of Harpsichord and Baroque Chamber Music at the University of California, San Diego, and has also taught at the University of San Diego.
In 2011-12, Ms. Ohnishi served as Visiting Artist at the American Academy in Rome.
I was unable to locate any videos of this music by Takae Ohnishi. So… here are other artists:
Here is the legendary Glenn Gould, performing the ‘Goldberg’ aria and Variations 1-7 by Bach
Next, here is a young Daniel Barenboim performing the Aria from Bach’s Goldberg Variations
Finally, here’s an unusual video: Bach – Goldberg Variations, BWV 988 (transcribed for string ensemble)
