Lisa Batiashvili

Lisa Batiashvili plays Brahms and C. Schumann

I heard Lisa Batiashvili perform in Toronto when I last visited there. Her career has developed nicely since then—

Here are a few audio selections on my Spotify playlist titled “Hank’s Batiashvili”

On this CD we hear the following:

Brahms:

  • Violin Concerto in D major, Op. 77

Performed with the Staatskapelle Dresden, conducted by Christian Thielemann

Schumann, Clara:

  • Romances (3), Op. 22

Performed with Alice Sara Ott (piano)

Lisa Batiashvili shows us her elegant artistry, and she finds ideal partners with the orchestra players. After meeting Thielemann she said:

“. . .his conducting was wild and fiery. At the same time I always had the feeling that I was being supported by the orchestra and that I had time to react.”

Rounding out the program are Clara Schumann’s chamber pieces which Batiashvili plays together with pianist Alice Sara Ott. For the first time in their careers they teamed up to play these three romances.

The tracks are:

Johannes Brahms: Violin Concerto in D major, Op. 77

1. Allegro non troppo
2. Adagio
3. Allegro giocoso, ma non troppo vivace

Clara Schumann: Romances (3), Op. 22

No. 1 in D flat major
No. 2 in G minor
No. 3 in B flat major

Here is an extract of the Brahms concerto:

And next, here is Ms. Batiashvili in Beethoven’s violin concerto Op. 61, last movement:
