Fray’s Bach

J S Bach:

  • Piano Works

I just love the playing of pianist David Fray. I’ll also have to admit the corny fact that I enjoy his French accent (!). He gave us performances of Schubert’s music, then he gave us a delightful Mozart. Now this CD takes us on a journey through Bach.

Here are six extracts from Mr. Fray’s musical  gifts to us, via my Spotify collection, “Hank’s Fray Partitas”

On this CD, we get the following works:

Bach, J S:

  • Partita No. 2 in C minor, BWV826
  • Partita No. 6 in E minor, BWV830
  • Toccata in C minor, BWV911

Performed by David Fray (piano)

Mr. Fray’s playing is creative and delightful Bach. He says that “We shouldn’t be afraid of acknowledging the expressiveness of Bach’s music”… “The Romantics don’t have a monopoly on expressivity!”

Also, I don’t see him trying to play like Glenn Gould or like Simone Dinnerstein. For me, he seems to produce his own style, his own sound, his unique Bach interpretations.

Here is the trailer for this recording:
