Beethoven:
- Piano Sonatas Volume 2
Jonathan Biss is yet another “yap” (Young American Pianist), who is emerging and on his way to join the large collection of terrific pianists out there, who have the skill and capabilities to thrill us with his music.
As an introduction, please listen to Mr. Biss, as he perfumes some of the Beethoven Sonatas from his recordings, on my Spotify collection called “Hank’s Biss”:
On this CD, which is his second volume of the 32 sonatas by Ludwig van Beethoven, we get to hear the following masterpieces:
Beethoven:
- Piano Sonata No. 4 in E flat major, Op. 7
- Piano Sonata No. 14 in C sharp minor, Op. 27 No. 2 ‘Moonlight’
- Piano Sonata No. 24 in F sharp major, Op. 78
- Fantasia in G minor, Op. 77
Performed by Jonathan Biss (piano)
On the second volume in his complete cycle of all 32 sonatas, Jonathan Biss has chosen the early ‘Grand Sonata’ op.7 from 1796; and also one the most famous of all the sonatas – the ‘Moonlight sonata’, along with the Fantasy Op.77.
Here is Mr. Biss in his video of the Piano Sonata No. 5 in C minor, titled “Prestissimo” by Beethoven:
And next, Jonathan Biss discusses Beethoven’s Piano Sonata No. 26 in E flat major, Opus 81a, “Les Adieux”:
