Leif Ove Andsnes Plays Bach and Mozart
On Saturday morning, April 27th, I enjoyed the artistry of pianist Leif Ove Andsness as he performed with the Norwegian Chamber Orchestra. While this is an older DVD recording, the music is what’s important, rather than the date when the recording was issued.
Recorded live in his hometown of Oslo, Norway, this magnificent recital features the piano mastery of Leif Ove Andsnes as he thrills the audience with several works by Bach and Mozart.
Let me begin by sharing with you a few selections from my Spotify playlist, “Hank’s Andsnes”
Andsnes is actually amazing as it relates to his pianistic skills: He is very accurate, but –in my view — his tempi are on occasion a bit too fast for my taste. Still he achieves a crispness, accuracy, and wonderful phrasing that I love.
Includes performances of several movements from Mozart’s Piano Concertos Nos. 9, 18 and 20, as well as two movements from Bach’s Concerto in F minor.
Andsnes performed these Mozart concertos in a beautiful Norwegian old post office building. In this lovely and intimate live recording, audiences were sitting close to the players, and the pianist conducted from the keyboard. You can almost feel like you are sitting and watching a live performance with them!
And… the members of the orchestra came across as terrific players, as well! They displayed huge energy and total commitment to produce the outstanding music on this recording.
