Gustavo Dudamel conducts:
- Europakonzert 2012
I love the deep, dark sound of the Cello. And fortunately we have great music for the Cello, as composed by Johann Sebastian Bach, as well as Haydn, Brahms, and others. And we have a whole lot of great chamber music, as well, in which the Cello is a participating instrument.
Every year the Berliner Philharmoniker invites artists for the orchestra’s traditional birthday concert on May 1st. This DVD is a record of the 2012 performance, when the guests were Gustavo Dudamel, conducting, and Gautier Capuçon, cello soloist.
The concert was performed at the Spanische Hofreitschule (Spanish Riding School) in Vienna – A spectacular and unique setting for an outstanding and historic musical event.
The selections played were:
Beethoven:
- Symphony No. 5 in C minor, Op. 67
Brahms:
- Variations on a theme by Haydn for orchestra, Op. 56a ‘St Anthony Variations’
Haydn:
- Cello Concerto No. 1 in C major, Hob. VIIb:1
With Gautier Capuçon, cello
Conductor: Gustavo Dudamel
