Grieg and Prokofiev:
- Piano Concertos
Performed by Nikolai Lugansky, piano, with the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin, conducted by Kent Nagano
On this CD, Nikolai Lugansky, Kent Nagano, and the excellent DSO-Berlin orchestra perform the Grieg and Prokofiev Piano Concertos. I love Lugansky’s playing. It is sensitive, yet strong, powerful, confident, and emotional.
Grieg:
- Piano Concerto in A minor, Op. 16
Prokofiev:
- Piano Concerto No. 3 in C major, Op. 26
Nikolai Lugansky’s most recent recording, featuring Rachmaninov’s two Piano Sonatas, was released in 2012 and won a number of awards including the Echo Klassik, the Diapason d’Or, ‘Gramophone Choice’, ‘Choc’ de Classica and Scherzo ‘Excepcionales’.
MusicWeb International wrote on the 17th of October 2013:
“Lugansky seems much more at home in the Prokofiev than the Grieg and opens the Andante – Allegro with a sense of mystery followed by considerable liveliness…Pleasing support from the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin under Kent Nagano comes across as colourful and especially sensitive to the soloist.”
Here is Russian pianist Nikolai Lugansky, playing Chopin’s Etudes and talking candidly about his life and music:
And next, here is Mr. Lugansky with Prokofiev’s 2nd Concerto:
Finally, here is Nikolai Lugansky performing Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No 3 in C minor:
