Berg and Schoenberg.

Alban Berg:

Arnold Schoenberg:

  • Transfigured Night

This CD presents the first recording of an arrangement for string ensemble of movements I, V and VI of the Lyric Suite by Alban Berg.

Arnold Schoenberg’s ‘Verklärte Nacht‘ (1899) is the musical setting of a poem by Richard Dehmel. It tells us about a couple walking through the night, in the course of which the woman confesses that the child she is carrying is not her husband’s. He forgives her later in this piece.

Tracks on this CD are:

Berg:

  • Lyric Suite – for string quartet (1926)

Schoenberg:

  • Verklärte Nacht, Op. 4

Performed by Jean-Guihen Queyras, cello, with the Ensemble Resonanz.

From 2010 until 2013, Jean-Guihen Queyras was Artist in Residence with Ensemble Resonanz, and he presented a series of concerts with the ensemble as both soloist and musical director.

Based at the Laeiszhalle in Hamburg the Ensemble has established the highly successful ‘Resonanzen’ concert series.

Here is the Bach Cello Suite no 3, as performed by Cellist Jean-Guihen Queyras:

And next, here is Cellist Jean-Guihen Queyras, as he discusses his career. The musical extracts are from his BBC Proms concert rehearsal with Jiří Bělohlávek and the BBC Symphony Orchestra. Notice the totally amazing tone that this artist extracts from his cello:
