Andre Jolivet:
- Chamber music for oboe and English Horn.
As I get older, I still “discover” people in music whose capabilities are a positive surprise for me. Two such recent experiences include Julia Fischer’s capabilities as a pianist, and the creative aspects of French composer Andre Jolivet.
This CD offers the opportunities to explore Jolivet’s music:
Jolivet:
- Chamber music for oboe and cor anglais
- Sonatine pour hautbois et bassoon
- Contoversia pour hautbois et harpe
- Suite liturgique (1942)
Performed by Stefan Schilli (cor anglais/oboe), Christiane Karg (soprano) <Photo top left>, Cristina Bianchi (harp), Marco Postinghel (bassoon), Sebastian Klinger (cello), and Oliver Triendl (piano)
Stefan Schilli is solo oboist with the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra.
The Suite Liturgique by Andre Jolivet is the focal point of this recording, and unfortunately it is a neglected masterpiece. The ‘Alleluia’ as sung by Christiane Karg is mysterious and deeply spiritual. I just love Ms. Karg’s relationship with her music!
Here is Christiane Karg in Ravel’s ‘Shéhérazade’, with the Sinfonieorchester conducted by Stanisław Skrowaczewski:
And next, here is Andre Jolivet’s Concerto for flute and strings:
Finally, here is André Jolivet’s “Salve Regina” from the ‘Suite Liturgique’, with Julia Rempe, Soprano:
