The Opera ‘Capriccio’ by Richard Strauss.
Richard Strauss’ last stage work is an opera about opera as an art form, depicting the creation of a music drama in an interesting and creative way.
Which came first the words or the music? That is the question, which Strauss and his librettist, Clemens Krauss, address through the story of a Countess who is torn between a composer and a poet.
The production of this Opera features Renee Fleming, as well as Angelika Kirchschlager, with the Orchestra of the Vienna State Opera.
The composer was married to a very famous singer, German soprano Pauline de Ahna. Perhaps this fact influenced his featuring such amazing soprano roles in his operas.
This DVD was just issued on May 27, 2014.
