I love the music of Brahms:
- Piano Concertos Nos. 1 and 2.
This CD features Johannes Brahms’ Piano Concertos Numbers 1 and 2, in amazing live performances by soloist Garrick Ohlsson and the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Tadaaki Otaka.
Brahms:
- Piano Concerto No. 1 in D minor, Op. 15
- Piano Concerto No. 2 in B flat major, Op. 83
Performed by Garrick Ohlsson (piano), with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, Tadaaki Otaka conducting.
The first piano concerto is exciting and quite unique in its relationship between the solo instrument and the orchestra. I love this music, because it generates so much excitement and because of its originality.
The tracks are as follows:
Disc 1:
1 Piano Concerto No. 1 in D Minor Op. 15: I. Maestoso
2 Piano Concerto No. 1 in D Minor Op. 15: II. Adagio
3 Piano Concerto No. 1 in D Minor Op. 15: III. Rondo (Allegro non troppo)
Disc 2:
1 Piano Concerto No. 2 in B-flat Major Op. 83: I. Allegro non troppo
2 Piano Concerto No. 2 in B-flat major, Op. 83: II. Allegro appassionato
3 Piano Concerto No. 2 in B-flat major, Op. 83: III. Andante
4 Piano Concerto No. 2 in B-flat major, Op. 83: IV. Allegretto grazioso – Un poco più presto
The second piano concerto of Brahms is also wonderful, although somewhat less inventive than the first concerto. There are wonderful melodies and it is a totally lyrical work.
Here is a terrific video of the Brahms Piano Concerto No. 1, with Daniel Barenboim, piano, and Sergiu Celibidache conducting:
And next, here is the concerto #2, with Garrick Ohlsson, piano:
