Opus Brasil.

Opus Brasil Ensemble plays Villa-Lobos.

The trip taken by composer Heitor Villa-Lobos to Paris during the 1920’s was crucial in its influence on him. The French capital was the center of musical trends at that time, and Villa-Lobos would go on to be influenced by Stravinsky, Jean Françaix, and others.

On this CD, we get to hear the following selections:

Françaix:

Mehmari:

  • Coro Breve
  • Variaciones Villa-Lobos

Villa-Lobos:

  • Fantasía Concertante para Piano y Fagot
  • Trio for Oboe, Clarinet & Bassoon

Performed by the Opus Brasil Ensemble.

Celebrated for its refinement, elegance and humor present in scores such as the Piano Concerto (1936), and Bright Trio for Strings (1933), Francaix’s “Divertissement for Oboe, Clarinet and Bassoon” was composed in 1947 for the Trio André Dupont.

Aside from Villa-Lobos and Jean Françaix, the third composer presented on this CD is André Mehmari.
