- Concerto recordings.
Pianist Radu Lupu was born on November 30, 1945 in Galați, Romania. He was educated at the Moscow Conservatory in Russia.
He has won a number of the most prestigious awards in classical piano performance, including first prizes at the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition and the Leeds International Pianoforte Competition.
It seems like this fine pianist is simply no longer willing to record his music, so his fans have to deal with his older recordings. And what fabulous recordings they are!
In this collection are packed all of Mr. Lupu’s previous concerto recordings in a single box set.
We get to hear all the five concertos by Beethoven, several concertos by Mozart (K. 414, and K. 467), Schumann, Grieg and Brahms (no.1) and even some chamber performances. (Quintets by Beethoven and Brahms).
Radu Lupu’s legendary musicianship shines throughout his performances, and his partners on these recordings are celebrated conductors such as Zubin Mehta, Andre Previn, Lawrence Foster, and Edo de Waart.
Let me illustrate with the following selections:
First, here is Radu Lupu in Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 23, the amazing slow movement, with Sándor Végh leading the Vienna Philharmonic: (Please select “skip Ad”; sorry!)
And next, here he is in the W.A. Mozart Piano Concerto No 19 in F Major K. 459:
