Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach’s music was highly regarded by his father, J. S. Bach, and also respected by Haydn, Mozart, and Beethoven. All of these were clearly amazing endorsements.
On this CD we hear:
Bach, C P E:
- Symphony in G major, Wq. 183/4 (H666)
- Symphony in D major, Wq. 183/1 (H663)
- Flute Concerto in A minor, Wq. 166 (H430), with Reinhard Czasch (flute).
- Concerto for 2 harpsichords, 2 horns & strings in F major, Wq. 46 (H408), with Yury Martynov (fortepiano) & Alexei Lubimov (fortepiano).
Bach, J C:
- Symphony in E flat for Double Orchestra, Op. 18 No. 1
Performed by the ‘Haydn Sinfonietta Wien’, Manfred Huss conducting.
Conductor Manfred Huss has also been a long-time champion of C.P.E. Bach, and the present CD combines recordings that he made with the Haydn Sinfonietta Wien.
These concertos and symphonies were composed by C. P. E. Bach over a 35-year period.
