Schubert:
- Heavenly Music of Angels.
Performed by pianist Simone Dinnerstein.
I listened to this amazing recording again yesterday. I listened attentively, and I was not interrupted.
My previous review praised Ms. Dinnerstein’s playing of Bach. This time, I was blown away by her playing of the Schubert Impromptus. And I kept returning to her interpretation of the Schubert Impromptu #3.
As a composer, Schubert created music of the angels! And for me, the third Impromptu is unsurpassed.
What Ms. Dinnerstein achieves is indeed an intimate conversation between the composer, the performer, the composer and the audience. We are drawn into this conversation as we hear Franz Schubert‘s sad, aching, seemingly endless melodic phrases, as they float toward heaven.

Here is a Music video by Simone Dinnerstein, performing “Something almost being said”: Music of Bach and Schubert.
Now let’s listen to how Vladimir Horowitz played this same composition at a concert in Vienna:
Let me end with the pianist Alfred Brendel, as we hear how he interprets Schubert’s Impromptu Op. 90/3:
