In Mozart’s Opera
- Die Zauberflöte, K620
For me, this opera is always a joy to watch and listen to. Yet the seriousness and profound aspects are not lacking. It is not only delightful but also thought – provoking.
The excellent Mozart conductor, Riccardo Muti, leads the Vienna Philharmonic and a superb cast in an outstanding performance of Pierre Audi‘s fantastic, colorful production of Mozart’s sublime ‘singspiel’.
The cast is led by the superb German Bass, René Pape, who has made the role of the priest, Sorastro, his own. And the remarkable coloratura soprano, Diana Damrau, brings fire and accuracy to the vocal pyrotechnics of The Queen Of The Night.
Supported by members of the Vienna Boys Choir, Wiener Staatsopernchor and Wiener Philharmoniker, Riccardo Muti (conductor), Pierre Audi (director)
The voices are top-notch and the Vienna Philharmonic sounds great under a sensitive Riccardo Muti. Particularly excellent are Christian Gerhaher as Papageno, and Genia Kuhmeier as Pamina.
Here is the Queen of the Night, singing to Tamino, asking him to rescue her daughter, Pamina:
