Claudio Abbado conducts:
- Music of Haydn and Mozart.
This CD pays tribute to the late conductor Claudio Abbado, who died in January 2014.
In 2004, he founded the ‘Orchestra Mozart’ as a meeting-place for young musicians from many countries. This recording is one of their last with Abbado; it features members of the orchestra as soloists in works by Mozart and Haydn.
The importance of working with and learning from young people was one of Abbado’s main legacies.
We hear the following works:
Haydn:
- Sinfonia Concertante in B flat major, Op. 84, Hob. I/105
Mozart:
- Oboe Concerto In C major, K314
Performed by Lucas Macías Navarro (oboe), Gregory Ahss (violin), Konstantin Pfiz (cello), and Guilhaume Santana (bassoon), with the Orchestra Mozart, Claudio Abbado conducting.
The individual movements are:
Oboe Concerto in C Major, K. 314: I. Allegro aperto, performed by Lucas Macías Navarro, Oboe.
Oboe Concerto in C Major, K. 314: II. Adagio non troppo
Oboe Concerto in C Major, K. 314: III. Rondo. Allegretto
Sinfonia Concertante in B-Flat Major, I. Allegro, performed by Gregory Ahss, violin, Guilhaume Santana, basoon, Konstantin Pfiz, cello, and Lucas Macías Navarro, Oboe.
Sinfonia Concertante in B-Flat Major, II. Andante
Sinfonia Concertante in B-Flat Major, III. Allegro con spirito
These two performances allow the listener to hear the interplay between the solo instruments, as well as with the many instruments of the orchestra.
If you like music for winds, this CD is for you.
