Prokofiev and Shostakovich:
- Cello Concertos.
A new album from Cellist Steven Isserlis features the creative Prokofiev Cello Concerto from the 1930’s.
Years later, Dmitry Shostakovich composed his Cello concerto, which was written for Mstislav Rostropovich in 1959.
The track titles for these works follows below:
Prokofiev:
- Cello Concerto in E minor, Op. 58
- Music for Children, Op. 65 – March, arr. by Gregor Piatigorsky
Shostakovich:
- Cello Concerto No. 1 in E flat major, Op. 107
Performed by Steven Isserlis, cello, with the Frankfurt Radio Symphony Orchestra, Paavo Järvi conducting.
These important works mark the cello’s maturity following the works of Haydn, Boccherini, and Elgar in combining its warm rhapsodic sound with strong, dark, and percussive passion.
Paavo Järvi conducts the Frankfurt Radio Symphony Orchestra and provides excellent support for Isserlis’ virtuosity.
