Barbara Bonney… I become sad when musicians fade away. Yet it is to be expected, given the course of life. We all get older; our focus changes. Our interests may change, yet our love for music is always enduring. Performing artists have an incredibly challenging life. The travel, the lonely hotels, the occasional insensitivity of the public, and the airport security hassles are often just too much. At some point, even the most dedicated of musicians call it quits. I have always admired Ms. Bonney. I found her singing to be sublime. Whether Schubert, Schumann, Richard Strauss, or her interpretation of Nordic songs, she always spoke with me. I miss her…
