The New York Philharmonic will present what appears to be a wonderful all-Mozart program at Lincoln Center.
Program:
Mozart: Divertimento for Strings in D major, K 136 (125a)
Mozart: Concerto for Horn no 2 in E flat major, K 417
Mozart: Serenade for 13 Winds, Gran partita
Both the Divertimento and the Serenade were certainly composed for some sort of event; either a wedding or some other party during Mozart’s time. And he loved to oblige, because it represented some much-needed income.
Today, music for horn is easier to perform that it was in Mozart’s day, because modern horns have valves. Mozart composed a total of four concerti for this instrument, and each one is a jewel.
