For my friends in New York:
At David Geffen Hall in NYC
November 11, 12, 13, 14, and 17.
“Rachmaninoff: A Philharmonic Festival” is a three-week series of concerts. They are devoted to the music of Russia’s last great Romantic composer.
The soloist is pianist Daniil Trifonov, one of the finest young pianists to come out of Russia in recent years.
All of the programs feature guest conductors; the first guest conductor is Cristian Măcelaru, the conductor-in-residence of the Philadelphia Orchestra, who directs Trifonov and the ensemble in Rachmaninoff’s tone poem “The Isle of the Dead,” as well as the Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini and the Piano Concerto No. 2 in C Minor.
