Several years ago, I attended the Aspen Music Festival in Aspen, Colorado. At that time I had the opportunity to hear Ms. Fischer play in a live performance, after previously hearing her in recordings. Yep… she is really is a terrific violinist.
In this recording, she performs Bach’s Concertos for Violin and Orchestra numbers 1 and 2, as well as the concerto for 2 violins, and finally the concerto for Violin and Oboe.
All of these performances are with the Academy of St Martin in the Fields chamber group with whom she has previously recorded and toured; in this recording, Fischer herself is also the leader of the orchestra.
There are many wonderful opportunities to enjoy Ms. Fischer’s artistic interpretations in this CD. I particularly enjoyed the second movements of the violin concertos which are done with wonderful musical and lyrical playing. There is always tone purity coming from Ms. Fischer’s instrument, and an excellent balance of her playing with the orchestra.
In the D-Minor Double Violin Concerto, she is joined by Sasha Sitkovetsky, whose playing is nicely matched with hers in phrasing and interpretation. Finally, there’s the concerto for Violin, Oboe, and strings which is also an outstanding performance.
