Last night, for my own entertainment, I listened to a recording of music performed by the amazing Martha Argerich. This was a recording of her in music by Beethoven and Shostakovich, supported by the Verbier Festival Chamber Orchestra, conducted by Gabor Takacs-Nagy.
Ms. Argerich is an astounding musician in terms of her sense of style, her adherence to rhythm, and per pianistic excellence.
Beethoven’s second concerto shines, as though he is saying that his music is worthy of succeeding Mozart. And in the Shostakovich concerto for Trumpet and Piano, the fun accelerates into a real joyous frenzy.
