As a violinist, I began to get familiar with the concerti for violin and orchestra composed by J. S. Bach at an early age. And since my father was also a violinist, I had lots of help about how these amazing pieces are to be interpreted.
I will list the concerti recorded on this CD:
Bach, J S:
Concerto for Oboe, Violin and Strings BWV1060R, with Alfredo Bernardini (oboe)
Violin Concerto No. 2 in E major, BWV1042
Cantata BWV21 ‘Ich hatte viel Bekümmernis’: Sinfonia
Violin Concerto No. 1 in A minor, BWV1041
Concerto for Two Violins in D minor, BWV1043, with Huw Daniel (violin) and Cecilia Bernardini (violin), and the Dunedin Consort, John Butt conducting.
Dutch-Italian violinist Cecilia Bernardini takes a break from leader duties as she steps into the spotlight to deliver a virtuoso performance under the direction of Bach specialist John Butt.
In his day, Bach was most famous as an organist and keyboard player, but he was also a fine violinist; his idiomatic writing and characteristic flair is evident in the many dazzling moments that he creates in this music.
