There are times when going back to very old recordings can be hugely rewarding.
I listened today to pianist Arturo Benedetti Michelangeli perform the Empreror Concerto under the direction of Sergio Celibidache
This amazing musician had a fairly restricted repertoire. And what he did perform left his audience completely moved and impressed.
