Celebrate with me: Schubert’s Birthday

In one of the 600 songs that Franz Schubert left us, the poet talks about being transported into a better world (Bessere Welt). So it is for me, when I listen to so many of Schubert’s compositions.

At this moment what comes to mind is the string quartet “Death and the Maiden”, or the slow movement from the Symphony number 5, or his amazing song for clarinet, soprano and piano titled “Der Hirt am Felsen” (Shepard on the Rock).

He was born on this day in 1797, just six years after Mozart died.
