Music is often a matter of taste. Over the past 48 hours I have listened to several,pianist perform the Mozart piano sonata number 14. In each case, according to my taste, the tempo of each performance was too fast. When it is music I love, I want to wallow in it, yet certainly have the performer follow the composer’s intent.
In the midst of my frustration with interpretation tempos that were too fast, I selected a performer whom I admire greatly, namely Grigory Sokolov. And I felt a sigh of relief. His playing of this amazing piece was slightly SLOWER! How wonderful that was.
