This new recording begins and ends with the two amazing sonatas for clarinet and piano by Johannes Brahms. These two sonatas represent a high point of 19th century German Romanticism at its most mature stage, and are here given a thoughtful, fresh and exciting new interpretation by clarinettist Chen Halevi and pianist Noam Greenberg.
The Brahms sonatas are partnered with Schumann’s Fantasiestucke, which set off this musical journey through German Romanticism, and which stand at the heart of the CD.
Both Brahms and Schumann are complemented and contrasted by two later works: Alban Berg’s Four Pieces op. 5, and Sven- Ingo Koch’s Hommages for clarinet and piano.
