The year 1791 was a really sad year for all music lovers. It was the year that Mozart died. And it is fortunate for us that a young musician was already warming up to succeed Mozart.
In 1792 Ludwig van Beethoven leaves his home city of Bonn in Germany for Vienna. Beethoven is one month short of his 22nd birthday, and he leaves Bonn for Vienna to study with composer Joseph Haydn.
Now, more than 225 years later, my grandson is studying one of Beethoven’s early piano sonatas, the Opus 2, number 2.
