One of the great Blessings in my life has been the fact that I learned to play violin at age 7. Much later, once I acquired some skills, was able to join several orchestras. I was 14 when I was accepted into a community orchestra in Brooklyn, New York. Members included doctors and other professional people. The conductor was the former first Oboe player under Arturo Toscanini.
I learned a lot of the orchestral repertoire at the Brooklyn group, and later also at the Minneapolis Civic Orchestra and the San Jose Symphony.
One of my great favorites became the second movement from the Violin Concerto number 2 by Sergei Prokofiev. This work was composed in 1935, abd it received its first performance in December of that year.
