The award – winning team of Vasily Petrenko and the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra continue their survey of the Stravinsky ballets with The Firebird.
As with the earlier album, the coupling on this recording is a fascinating one. Stravinsky was Rimsky Korsakov’s star pupil, and his influence on Stravinsky can be detected clearly in the exciting score of The Firebird.
Korsakov’s Golden Cockerel suite was arranged from music from his 1909 opera based on the story by Pushkin.
