Conductor Ernst Märzendorfer shows us that he has Haydn ‘running through his veins’.
Märzendorfer’s interpretation of Haydn’s symphonies raises him above the crowd and these recordings may prove to be one’s preferred choice.
These recordings have been mastered from vinyl copies, as it is not known what happened to the original tapes and whether they still exist. This release comes 10 years after Märzendorfer’s death and 210 years after Haydn’s.
For me, these symphonies, as well as Haydn’s chamber music represent works of great originality, humor, and depth.
