Soprano Barbara Bonney had a spectacular career as a Lieder singer, as an Opera singer, as a soloist with orchestra, and as a teacher.
Born on April 14, 1956, in Montclair, New Jersey, Bonney inherited her grandmother’s love for music. She began piano lessons at age five, but dropped piano for cello at age eight.
Later, while studying in Salzburg Austria, she began to study voice. Ultimately —to the sadness of fans like me— she Is now retired from the stage.
I understand, of course; but still I miss listening to her, as I suspect others do, as well.
