I love the way in which German Soprano Christiane Karg sings the songs by Richard Strauss. She has the sense, I believe, that Strauss composed so many of these songs for his wife, Pauline, who was a very well known singer herself.
Christiane Karg was born in Feuchtwangen, Bavaria. She studied singing at the Salzburg Mozarteum with Heiner Hopfner and Wolfgang Holzmair, where she was awarded the Lilli Lehmann Medal, and at the Music Conservatory in Verona. During her studies she made her highly acclaimed debut at the Salzburg Festival and has been a welcome guest there ever since.
