Mozart composed this quartet in 1782, and we are still listening to it in the year 2020; Amazing!
Of the twenty-three quartets he wrote, even among the celebrated last ten, the so-called “Haydn” quartets are considered Mozart’s finest. In technique, variety, ingenuity and sheer musical brilliance, they constitute an important landmark in string quartet development.
Together, the quartets of Mozart and also of Haydn combined to comprise the first great watershed of Viennese Classical chamber music.
