I feel grateful that there is so much music on the planet that is capable of providing healing for those who truly listen to what the composer is sharing with us through sound.
For me, this composition by Frederic Chopin captures the sadness and the tragedy of our times.
Chopin composed this piece in the mid 1800’s. Whereas the term “prelude” had previously been used to describe an introductory piece, Chopin’s pieces stand as self-contained units, each conveying a specific idea or emotion.
He provided new meaning to a musical form that at the time was often associated with improvisation or “preluding”.
In publishing the 24 preludes together as a single opus, comprising miniatures that could either be used to introduce other music or as self-standing works, Chopin challenged contemporary attitudes regarding the value of small musical forms.
