Robert Schumann was a piano student of Prof. Friedrich Wieck. One thing led to another, and Schumann fell in love with Wieck’s daughter, Clara. Yes… the father did not permit Clara to marry Mr. Schumann, and the rest is history.
Ultimately, after a long legal battle with her father, Schumann married his daughter on 12 September 1840, the day before her 21st birthday. Had they waited another day, they would no longer have required her father’s consent.
Times were different then… And while waiting, Schumann expressed his love for Clara through music.
