It certainly must have been a huge event when violinist David Oistrakh and pianist Sviatoslav Richter gave a concert in New York. According to my research it took place in 1970!
There is a lot of demanding playing to be done in Beethoven’s Sonata No. 6 and Brahms’ Sonata No. 3, but close–ups of the hands of Mr. Oistrakh and Mr. Richter revealed that each was always in such absolute control that nervous and inefficiency never entered into their movements.
I watched a film of this event, and for me it was all about the amazing interpretation by these two musicians.
